Assam Rifles personnel Pranay Kalita, who was martyred in Manipur fighting militants, was consigned to flames in his hometown in Barpeta district of Assam with full state honours on July 31.

The mortal remains of the martyr were brought to his residence on July 31 and people gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects to the slain soldier.

Born on January 26, 1982, Kalita joined the 4th Assam Rifles on March 30, 2001.

Three Assam Rifles personnel were killed and five others injured in an ambush in Manipur’s Chandel district near the Indo-Myanmar border on July 29.

A patrol party of Assam Rifles was ambushed by suspected militants by triggering an IED explosion followed by firing at Khongtal area under Chakpikarong police station around 6.30 pm on July 29.

The three Assam Rifles personnel who were killed in the ambush were Havildar Pranay Kalita, Rifleman Methna Konyak and Rifleman Ratan Sapam.
