A Meghalaya Police constable died at a quarantine centre in Ri-Bhoi district on July 30, but heath authorities said that his death was not due to COVID-19.
“We conducted an antigen test immediately after he died and the test result was negative,” District Health Medical Officer of Ri- Bhoi, M Mawrie told UNI over the phone.
The 54-year-old constable from Meghalaya Police’s 1st Battalion passed away at the Mahatma Gandhi University quarantine centre in Khanapara after he complained about stomach ache, vomited blood and later fell unconscious.
“The exact cause of his death will be known only after we receive the post mortem report,” the medical official said.
Meghalaya Police spokesperson Gabriel Iangrai informed that Constable Ajay Baidya had undergone quarantine as he was among the secondary contacts of a positive patient.
