More than 2100 new COVID-19 cases in Assam on July 30

More than 2000 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Assam on July 30.

The number of new COVID-19 positive cases detected in a single day has crossed 2,000 for the first time in Assam as the overall tally neared 40,000.

Altogether 2112 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours in the state, taking the overall tally to 38,407, state Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The districts of Kamrup Metro, Kamrup and Nagaon accounted for over 200 cases each.

The surge in new cases has pushed the number of active COVID-19 positive cases above 9,000 for the first time in the state and the tally now stands at 9230.

The previous highest single day spike was above 1600 cases detected last week.

The number of recovered patients has also been increasing steadily and has reached 29,080 with 1248 discharges on July 30.

The death toll has increased by two to reach 94.
