Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Assam have availed a total credit of Rs 1317 crore during the COVID-19 pandemic period as part of the central government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Assam industries and commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary reviewed the status of the scheme for promotion of MSMEs on July 30. He informed that 82,816 MSMEs of Assam have been sanctioned credit of Rs 1,317 crore during this pandemic period.
Patowary interacted with general managers (GMs) of district industries and commerce centres (DICC) and department officials through a webinar and discussed in details about the implementation of various programmes and schemes for development of industries and commerce in the state.
The minister directed the GMs to facilitate those industries which are facing challenges or problems, so that those can resume their operations smoothly. He also directed them to identify suitable pieces of government land where industrial estate may be set up in the district.
He added that Rs 3.44 crore have been disbursed for the indigenous industries of the state in sectors like japi, terracotta, mask-making etc. in the past two months.
Patowary directed the GMs that these funds should be utilized properly for promotion of the indigenous industries in the state and utilization certificates should be submitted accordingly. He further directed the GMs that a project report should be submitted highlighting the ways and means for supporting and promoting the handicrafts and indigenous industries during this pandemic period.
