In a bid to promote local crafts and entrepreneurs of the state, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Bell Metal Artisans & Trading Co-operative Society of Sarthebari in Barpeta district on July 20.

The chief minister handed over the financial assistance under Chief Minister’s Local Entrepreneur Promotion Scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said the bell metal and brass artisans of Assam have set an example for self-employment in the state.

“The state government is committed to protect and promote the local crafts and entrepreneurs,” he said, adding that following the prime minister’s call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, the state government has also taken sincere efforts to make Assam economically self-reliant.

He added that the brass and bell metal industry of Sarthebari would make significant contribution in realizing the goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Assam’.

State Water Resources Minister Keshav Mahanta, MLA Ashok Sarma, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta and other officials were present on the occasion.
