The death toll due to floods in Assam has increased to 33 with six deaths reported in the last 24 hours, while the overall situation remained unchanged as nearly 15 lakh population reeled under waters on July 1.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority informed that six deaths were reported from different parts of the state – three from Barpeta and one each from Dhubri, Nalbari and Nagaon, pushing the overall tally to 33.
The death toll in landslide also increased to 24 as a 50-year-old man was killed in Cachar district.
As many as 14,95,321 people in 21 districts of the state continued to be affected, spread across 59 revenue circles and 2197 villages and localities.
As much as 87018 hectares of crop land has also been affected so far.
More than 15,000 people were taking shelter in 109 relief camps, while another 145 relief distribution camps were also operational in the state.
Vast parts of Kaziranga National Park and Orang National Park have been affected in the current wave of floods.
At least two hog deer have been killed in floods in Kaziranga, while one has died in Orang in the last 24 hours.
Several major rivers continued to flow above the danger level, including the Brahmaputra in five places.
