Tripura government has announced one year extension in upper age limit for entering public services across all categories as a one-time relaxation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The relaxation will be valid till December this year.
Government spokesperson Ratan Lal Nath on July 1 said that the council of ministers in a meeting on June 30 reviewed the situation in detail and found that the administration could not do much in the past three months despite the immediate need to fill up a large number of posts in various departments.
“We have not even been able to publish the advertisement for the jobs due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 in the end of March this year. A large number of eligible aspirants, who would be over-age by this year, would not be able to fill the application for the jobs. Considering the situation, the cabinet decided to extend the upper age limit for all categories of government job for this year,” Nath said.
He claimed that so far no other state in the country has taken a decision in this respect, but Tripura government has decided to give one-year relaxation in upper age limit for all categories of candidates for recruitment to various posts advertised by various departments, including TPSC, PSUs, and government organizations.
Nath said the existing age limit for state government jobs for general and reserved categories is 40 and 45 years respectively, but the extension by one year will enable candidates, who cross the upper age limit by the end of 2020 to remain eligible.
The council of ministers has also decided to fill up 100 vacant posts of junior stenographers.
