Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar for contributing Rs 1 crore to the Assam flood relief. Sonowal took it to Twitter to express his gratitude to ‘Khiladi’ of Bollywood.

Sonowal termed Akshay Kumar as a ‘true friend’ of Assam.

“Thank you @akshaykumar ji for your kind contribution of Rs 1 crore towards Assam flood relief. You have always shown sympathy and support during periods of crisis. As a true friend of Assam, may God shower all blessings to you to carry your glory in the global arena,” Sonowal tweeted.

Last year also, the veteran actor donated Rs 1 crore for Assam flood and another Rs 1 crore for rescue and relief of animals of Kaziranga National Park.

Akshay had earlier made a donation of Rs 25 crore to the PM-CARES Fund in March to help the country deal with the COVID-19 crisis.

The flood scene, however, has improved in Assam. As per the government bulletin on August 18 morning 11, 962 people are affected by floods as of now. There are 136 individuals taking shelter in two relief camps set up by the government. No deaths have been reported in the last one week due to flood. The total death toll this year stands at 112.
