Actor Jatin Bora addressing a Press Conference on August 17

Assamese actor Jatin Bora, who stepped out of BJP and took part in the anti-CAA protests in December 2019, has re-joined the saffron party on August 17, terming it to be an emotional decision.

Bora, who has acted in a number of Assamese films in the last two decades, also apologised to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP State President Ranjeet Kimar Dass.

“I apologise to each and every one of the BJP leaders and its well wishers for my emotional decision (of leaving the party and joining in the anti-CAA protests). The situation was different during the anti-CAA movement in Assam. The people of Assam were emotional at that time and I too was no different. It was publicised that a large number of people from Bangladesh will be arriving here. But later I realised, we were misled,” Bora told reporters on August 17, reading his statement.

Then he continued to narrate how this anti-CAA movement halted the process of development in the state. “The arrival of Japanese prime minister would have created an economic revolution in the state but that couldn’t happen due to the protests…Guwahati was devastated. We never saw such a situation even during the Assam agitation…finally what happened…it helped some people to be an MP in the Rajya Sabha. Many are trying to form new political parties. Many like me were misled by this drama,” Bora reckoned.

Bora said that he is determined that PM Narendra Modi and CM Sarbananda Sonowal can never do any harm to the people of Assam. “So, I decided to continue my work as an active member of BJP,” he said.

Bora also mentioned that during the current BJP government’s rule, many artists have seen better days with several schemes.

The anti-CAA movement had rocked the state and capital Dispur for several days which culminated in curfews and deaths of at least five persons. The Citizenship Amendment Act endorses shelter to minorities from the neighbouring countries in India who have entered till December 31, 2014.
