Arunachal Pradesh recorded its fourth COVID-19 fatality as a 56-year-old Assam Rifles personnel, who had returned from Imphal to Pasighat tested positive on August 7, died at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, a senior health official said.

The deceased was transferred to 188-Military Hospital, Likabali for further management after he tested positive for Covid-19. He was referred to AMCH, Dibrugarh on August 11 for ICU care since his condition deteriorated, he said.

“Patient arrived at 6.30 pm and expired soon after at 10 pm due to COVID-19 pneumonitis with acute respiratory failure,” state surveillance officer L Jampa said.

While the state continues to witness spike in COVID-19 cases as 82 new infections were reported, taking the total number of cases to 2,512.

Of 82 new cases, 17 were reported from Itanagar Capital Complex, 14 from West Kameng, 12 from East Siang, eight each from Papum Pare and West Siang, six from Lower Siang, five each from Changlang and Tirap, two each from Upper Subansiri and Lohit, one each from Namsai, East Kameng and Longding, as per the bulletin issued by the state Directorate of Health Services (DHS).

Among 17 cases from Itanagar Capital Complex, five were detected at Banderdewa check gate, four from IMC Testing Centre, Naharlagun, three from TRIHMS, Naharlagun, one from paid quarantine testing centre, one is a Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF) personnel detected at Hollongi check gate and one is reported from Niba Hospital, Naharlagun.

All the cases from West Kameng are primary contacts of positive case detected earlier while the cases from East Siang are CPMF personnel detected in quarantine facility.

Barring five, all are asymptomatic cases.

As per the bulletin issued by the DHS on August 13 night, 59 COVID-19 patients were discharged following their recovery from the virus.

Of the 59 discharged, 16 were from Changlang,14 from Namsai, 12 from Tirap, six from Lower Siang, five from east Kameng, three from Itanagar Capital Complex, two from Tawang and one from West Siang.

A total of 2,512 Covid-19 cases have been reported so far in Arunachal Pradesh out of which active cases stands at 790, discharged 1,718 and four death.
