Guwahati Airport

Assam BJP has accused opposition Congress of spreading rumours over the handing over of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on lease to Adani group under Private Public Partnership (PPP).

“Central government has been met with opposition from the Congress party and baseless allegations. The Congress is spreading rumours that airport has been sold,” Rupam Goswami, chief party spokesperson said in a statement.

Goswami said it would be better to privatise the airport as it seeks to develop the airport terminal and other facilities.

The airports’ runway and traffic control systems will be under the Airport Authority of India.

Congress on August 24 staged a protest at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati against the government’s decision to hand over the airport to a private group.

Led by state party president Ripun Bora, Congress leaders and supporters displayed placards against the decision and also raised slogans against the government.
