The Assam cabinet on August 10 took a series of important decisions, including regulating fees of private schools and street vending, and extending time limits under Assam VAT Act.

In order to regulate the fees collected by private schools in the state, the state cabinet, chaired by the chief minister, approved the Assam Non-Government Education Institutions (Regulation of Fees) Rules 2020 was approved.

It was also decided to enhance honorarium of state’s 161 honorary librarians from Rs 9,000 to Rs 12,000 and 153 helpers honorarium from Rs 550 to Rs 9,000.

Time limits for returns, forms, assessments etc under Assam VAT Act would be extended and notification for the same would be issued, the cabinet decided.

With an objective to ensure some degree of organization to street vendors, the Assam Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme 2020 was approved.

The council of ministers also decided to upgrade the Bajali Sub-Division into a full-fledged district with creation of 10 officer posts and 85 other posts.

A decision was taken for implementation of ‘Uberization’ Scheme of Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). Under this, 668 new buses would operate for 5 years.

Further, it was also decided to create two new companies of SDRF. The State Cattle and Buffalo Breeding Policy 2020 was also approved by the state cabinet.
