The COVID-19 tally in Assam has crossed 70,000 with the detection of over 2,700 new cases in the last 24 hours.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that out of 61,318 COVID-19 tests conducted on August 13, altogether 2,796 were found positive, with a positivity rate of 4.55 percent.
The overall COVID-19 tally in the state now stands at 71,795.
Among the new cases, 418 were from Kamrup (metro) district, 307 from Cachar, and over 200 each from Kamrup and Dibrugarh.
On the other hand, 2,174 cured COVID-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals during the last 24 hours, pushing the recovered tally to 49,383.
Eight COVID-19 deaths were also confirmed on August 13 and the death toll has risen to 169.
The number of active COVID 19 positive cases in the state currently is 22,240.
