With 23 fresh casualties during the past 24 hours, the death toll due to COVID-19 reached to 537 in Bihar on August 17.

According to the health department, Patna reported 5 casualties taking the death toll to 101 in the district, Gaya reported 4 casualties, Rohtas and East Champaran reported 2 death each and Bhagalpur,Bhojpur, Buxar, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Munger, Nawada , Siwan and West Champaran one death each due to coronavirus-related complications.

Of the 537 casualties, maximum deaths were reported from Patna where 101 people have lost their lives due to the infection so far followed by Bhagalpur with 47, Gaya 37, Rohtas 28, Munger 26, Nalanda 23 ,Vaishali ,Muzaffarpur and East Champaran 21 each, Bhojpur 20, Saran 16, Samastipur 15 , West Champaran 15 ,
Begusarai and Siwan 13 each, Nawada 12 ,
Araria and Kaimur 9 each, Jehanabad and Supaul 7 each, Aurangabad, Buxar , Jamui and Khagaria 6 each, Arwal, Sitamarhi, and Kishanganj 5 each, Banka, Lakhisarai, Madhepura , Purnea, Madhubani and Katihar 4 each , Sheikhpura 3, Gopalganj 2 ,Sheohar, and Saharsa 1 each.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh accompanied by Information and Public Relations department Secretary Anupam Kumar and Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Jitendra Kumar said that 1,13,498 samples were examined on August 14.

He said that with 3,891 patients recovering during the past 24 hours 72566 people have so far recovered in the state. Altogether 30,989 active cases were at present in the state.
