Ex-Assam CM Tarun Gogoi tested COVID-19 positive

Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party saying that the BJP governments both at the Centre and in the states are doing only publicity to deceive people. – The News Mill

Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been tested positive of COVID-19. The 86-year-old politician said in Twitter about his status.

“I have been tested COVID-19 positive yesterday (August 25). People who came in contact with me during Last few days they should go for COVID test immediately,” Gogoi tweeted at around 11 am on August 26.

The veteran Congressman has been one of the most active politicians of the state and was seen engaging in exchange of words with state health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently on several issues.

He is one of the first high profile positive cases in the state. Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and his wife apart from several MLAs have also been tested positive in the last several weeks.

As of now, there are 94,592 positive cases in Assam and among these 19,515 are active cases. The death toll has reached 260.

Himanta Biswa Sarma has wished Gogoi a speedy recovery. “We have kept a team of doctors ready for best possible medical care and assistance to our revered senior leader,” said Sarma.
