Senior Meghalaya Police officials on August 29 inspected the Marok Ancholic Mahamaya Mandir, which was vandalised by miscreants at Merenggapara village in West Garo Hills district.
The temple was found damaged in the morning of August 16 with its tin roof and some sections of the building bearing the brunt of vandalism.
A Meghalaya Police spokesperson said that Deputy Inspector General (Western Range) Debangshu Sangma and district police chief of West Garo Hills, MG Raghavendra Kumar inspected the place of occurrence so as to closely monitor the issue and to supervise the investigation.
“The investigating team are putting all efforts into ascertaining the facts and circumstances of the case, and most importantly to arrest those involved in the desecrating act,” Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) GK Iangrai, said in a statement.
“The police department once again appeals to all the citizens to refrain from circulating/sharing any misinformation on this matter and to also not fall victim to any rumors or false news that are being circulated,” the police statement read.
“For any clarification or further information, the district police/officer-in-charge of police stations/out posts of West Garo Hills Districts may kindly be contacted,” Iangrai further stated.
