Manipur Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen was found COVID-19 positive on August 25.

Informing about her health condition, the minister tweeted: “After getting symptoms of coronavirus, I got myself tested and the report came back positive. I sincerely request all of you who came in contact with me in the past few days to kindly isolate yourselves and get yourselves tested.”

Kipgen is the first minister and second legislator to be tested COVID-19 positive in the state. She has no recent history of going outside the state. Congress MLA Fajur Rehman had earlier tested positive after returning from New Delhi recently.

Local transmission has been confirmed in the state and there is spread of the virus in the city areas prompting the government to strictly implement lockdown. The market which was opened for few days last week was closed down as two families running pharmacies in the heart of Imphal were found COVID-19 positive.

In the last 24 hours, two women aged 73 years and 41 years, expired at RIMS due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions. The cumulative number of deaths in the state went up to 24.

In the past 24 hours, 74 persons from general population and 8
personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases, a state health department report said.

Manipur now has reported a total of 5444 COVID-19 cases out of which 1431 are from among Central Security Personnel. Of the total cases, 3812 recovered from the disease in the state while the number of active cases is 1608.
