Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on August 13 formally launched the portal of the state excise department in order to facilitate application of online import permits for bonded warehouses.

“Through the online portal, bonded warehouses can now opt for e-payment of import permits making it more convenient, faster and simpler and taking the load off of concerned offices from having to deal with time consuming offline payments through treasury challans,” Sangma said.

Stating that the online facility is being extended to bonded warehouses on pilot basis, the CM said the department plans to extend the facility further and will soon start the issuance of export permits by companies as well as issuance of retailer permits to wine shops/bars as well.

“Eventually the government plans to incorporate all services of the department online,” Sangma, who also re-launched the newly redesigned Meghalaya State Portal with a new look and improved UI/UX design making it more user-friendly.

According to officials, the portal has been designed to be more responsive, device-friendly and has improved security features. Contents can be shared using various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Messenger and WhatsApp.

The Meghalaya state portal provides a single window access to online services including information on government departments and contact details of senior officials in the government.

“It is a storehouse of documents, notifications, circulars, orders, press releases, tenders, acts and rules, schemes, forms. Special focus is also given to the various notifications, circulars, appeals, government orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the official said.

“Content in the state portal is contributed by various government departments and organizations. A department can login to the portal to contribute content which is moderated before finally getting published for public viewing,” he added.

The Meghalaya state portal is a collaborative effort of the department of information technology and communication and NIC Meghalaya state centre.
