On the eve of Independence Day celebration, Assam police has recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions from Udalguri district.

The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, five AK-56 rifles, two M-16 rifles, one airgun, seven 9 mm pistol along with several rounds of bullets, seven grenades, 200 detonator caps, 20 kilograms of explosives among other.

No arrests were made in this connection and police sources said that they are still investigating the case.

Security measures have been tightened in Guwahati and other parts Assam ahead of the 74th Independence Day celebrations.

Security forces have been keeping vigil in sensitive areas across the state to avoid any untoward situation.

In Guwahati, checking of vehicles has been intensified and security measures have been tightened in all entry points of the capital city of Assam.

Banned insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) have called for boycotting the Independence Day celebrations.
