N Biren Singh

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on August 13 assured that ongoing talks between the central government and various Naga groups will not disturb Manipur.

He said the Centre had assured that the opinions of the people of Manipur will be heard before finalising any final agreement between Government of India and NSCN (IM).

The CM said as a fall out of the truce the territorial integrity of Manipur will not be affected.

He was interacting with the media during the observation of Patriots day at Hicham Yaicham pat in Imphal. Various organisations of Manipur have opposed any decision to disturb peace and harmony and territorial integrity of Manipur while trying to solve a problem of a neighbouring state.

The state witnessed series of stirs, most prominently the June 18 uprising of 2001 in which 18 people died after the central government decided to extend the truce zone between government and the militant outfit NSCN (IM) beyond Nagaland.

Later the decision was rescinded.
