The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), a member of the ruling BJP-led coalition government in Assam, took to the streets on September 29 demanding the government to hold elections for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) at the earliest.

The BPF, which has been in power in the BTC since its formation for the last three terms, took out rallies in different parts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), urging the state government to declare elections for the BTC.

They demanded holding of the elections before the expiry of the current governor’s rule, which ends on October 27.

The party leaders and workers took out rallies in Mushalpur, Bhergaon and Udalguri, among other places, in BTR.

The BTR – erstwhile Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts – has been under governor’s rule since April 27 as elections, scheduled for earlier that month, could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
