The central government on September 16 has said that the report prepared by the high-level committee set up by the Union Home Ministry on the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is still under examination of the Assam government.
“The report prepared by the high-level committee set up by the Union Home Ministry on the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord and its recommendations are still ‘under examination’ of the state government,” the Rajya Sabha was informed.
“The high-level committee constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Clause 6 of Assam Accord has submitted its report to the Assam government and its recommendations are under examination of the state government,” Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said in a written reply to a question on September 16.
Six months have passed since the submission of Clause 6 report of the Assam Accord by the high-level committee to the Assam government. The committee which was constituted in July 2019 for the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord of 1985, submitted its report to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in February.
The committee was formed to suggest measures and recommendations for the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. It was supposed to “assess the appropriate level of reservation of seats in Assam Legislative Assembly and local bodies for the Assamese people”.
According to a Home Ministry notification, the committee will “recommend the appropriate level of reservations in employment under the government of Assam for the Assamese people”.
