A team of Manipur Police, led by Director General of Police LM Khaute, met village chiefs of 16 villages of Kangpokpi district to appeal for stopping of illicit poppy cultivation.

In the meeting held at police headquarters in Imphal, an extensive interaction with the village chiefs was done. Manipur police official appealed to the village chiefs not to cultivate illicit poppy/ganja plants and co-operate with police in the drive against drugs including poppy/ganja cultivation for making Manipur a drug free state.

Police officials also shared penal provision under ND&PS Act for involvement in such activities.

In the session, the village chiefs also shared their grievances and they requested for alternative means of livelihood and developmental works in their villages.

Police officials asked the chiefs to furnish details of alternatives means of livelihood of their respective villages through concerned superintendent of police.
