Mizoram government has framed guidelines for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients to stay at home quarantine and undergo treatment for the viral disease.
A health department official on September 15 said that as majority of COVID-19 patients are showing no symptoms for the virus, the state government has decided to allow home quarantine for such patients thereby easing the burden on the COVID care centres.
In a meeting of health officials, chaired by health minister R Lalthangliana, the officials reviewed the home isolation guidelines and referred it to chief minister Zoramthanga for approval, the official said.
The meeting decided that any COVID-19 patients, who are declared ‘asymptomatic’ by registered doctors or medical practitioners will be allowed to stay in home isolation depending on proper evaluation of their health condition. Also, they will have to fulfil certain conditions like having isolated room and separate bathroom and should be permitted by the village or local level task force.
The official also said that a caregiver should be available to provide care on 24×7 basis and the patients will be monitored by the health department.
Earlier in July, Union Health Ministry allowed home isolation for asymptomatic positive patients.
