As the COVID-19 tally continues to increase in Assam, schools in the state will be re-opening from September 21 in a phased manner with attendance of students purely on a voluntary basis.
Students from classes 9 to 12 will be allowed to attend their schools or colleges for guidance from the teachers from September 21.
They will have to carry an authorisation letter from their guardians and only attend classes as per schedule fixed by the school or college.
The Education department has circulated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for re-opening of the schools and colleges, including fixing days and timings when students of each class will come.
Further guidelines will be issued by the department after 15 days after reviewing the situation.
COVID-19 tests for teachers as well as non-teaching staff of all schools and colleges was made mandatory prior to re-opening of the institutions.
The current SOPs have been issued only for the government institutions, state Education and Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said, with private schools not having to compulsorily follow the directive and reopen their classes.
