Assam actor Adil Hussain, who played the protagonists in Prakash Jha’s ‘Pareeksha’ and Vijay Jayapal’s ‘Nirvana Inn’, has won the best actor award for the roles at IndoGerman Filmweek.

Adil Hussain plays the character of Buchchi Paswan, a rickshaw puller who strives hard to get his son admitted in a high-profile school for better education in ‘Pareeksha’.

In Nirvana Inn, Adil Hussain plays Jogiraj Chakraborty, a man who has migrated from his hometown of Majuli in Assam to Himachal Pradesh, where he becomes the caretaker of the eponymous Nirvana Inn.

“Thrilled to have received the Best Actor Award for the role of Buchchi Paswan in Pareeksha @Pareeksha2020 at the #IndoGermanFilmWeek in Berlin last night. Thank You for this recognition. I share this Award with dearest @prakashjha27. And of course with the entire team,” Adil tweeted after the development on October 1.

He later tweeted to mention about both the films.

“The Award for Best Actor at the #IndoGermanFilmWeek, Berlin Last Night is for my two roles as Buchchi and Jogi in @Pareeksha2020 and @NirvanaInnFilm Director @Pareeksha2020 and @iam_vj I am sorry that I hadn’t mentioned both films in earlier tweet,” Adil said in his second tweet.

IndoGerman Filmweek is a special film event that brings quality Indian films closer to the German audience and beyond.

‘Pareeksha’, inspired by true events, also features Sanjay Suri and Priyanka Bose. Whereas, ‘Nirvana Inn’ is a psychological horror which also features Rajshri Deshpande and Sandhya Mridul among others.

More than 20 films on the themes of women and men in transition and upheaval were screened at the eighth edition of the IndoGerman Filmweek from September 24 to 30.
