Noted economist Jayanta Madhab breathed his last on October 19

Noted economist Jayanta Madhab breathed his last at a private hospital in Guwahati on October 19. He was 91.

Madhab was admitted at the hospital for the last few days and died following a cardiac arrest.

A renowned economist, Madhab was a former director of Asian Development Bank. He played a crucial role as chairman of NEDFi and helped it in bringing in financial discipline and envisioning growth centric policies.

He was also the economic advisor to the Assam government during Congress regime.

His last rites were performed with full state honours.

Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has mourned the death of Madhab. In a statement, Sonowal said with the death of Madhab, the state lost an economist who by dint of his sheer expertise in economics helped the state in taking a slew measures on economic and financial affairs.
