One person was sentenced to death and 24 others were handed life imprisonment by a local court in Jorhat district of Assam in a mob lynching case of a doctor.

The court had pronounced 25 people guilty for the lynching of Deben Dutta.

The 73-year-old doctor of Teok Tea Estate was beaten to death by a mob on August 31, 2019, for alleged delay in treatment of a patient.

A special investigation team of the police had probed the case and filed the charge sheet in 21 days.

The police had named 32 accused in the charge sheet, but the court acquitted six while one died during course of investigation.
