The standoff at the border between Assam and Mizoram entered its sixth day on November 2 as the blockade on National Highway 306 in Assam continued despite a series of high-level meetings.
The Mizoram government has ferried fuel and cooking gas from neighbouring Manipur and Tripura due to the blockade.
The influential student bodies in Mizoram, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) have slammed the government for attending the meeting with Assam.
The student bodies also burnt copies of the minutes of the meeting between Mamit DC and Karimganj DC. The meeting was held on October 31.
The copies of the meeting’s minutes were burnt at two separate locations in Aizawl.
The MZP said that they will continue to oppose any talks between the two governments till the blockade on the National Highway 306 is lifted and the inter-state border dispute is resolved.
Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that solving the inter-state border disputes of Assam with other Northeast states is top of the agenda for the BJP. He said the Central government would take up the issue after the Assam elections that are five-six months away.
