A CID team, led by a senior superintendent of police, has left for Kakopathar in Tinsukia district of Assam to launch an enquiry into the death of senior local journalist Parag Bhuyan in an apparent hit and run accident.
Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal had on November 12 ordered a CID probe into the death of Parag Bhuyan.
Accordingly, a team of CID led by Bibekananda Das, SSP, proceeded to Tinsukia district on November 13. The SSP is accompanied by Pradip Kumar Das, DSP, and Jitesh Barman, Inspector of CID.
A team from Forensic Science Laboratory comprising senior scientific officer & in-charge physics division Dr Partha Pratim Dev Sarma; junior scientific officer (serology division) Arup Manta and laboratory technician Haren Das have also proceeded to Tinsukia to assist the investigation.
Parag Bhuyan’s death: Protests in Guwahati
Meanwhile, a protest was staged in front of TV channel Pratidin Time office in Guwahati, the channel Bhuyan was working for as a correspondent from Kakopathar in Tinsukia.
The channel’s editor-in-chief, Nitumani Saikia, had on November 12 claimed that there was foul play involved in the death of Bhuyan and had demanded a thorough enquiry into it.
Opposition Congress also staged a protest in Guwahati, demanding a thorough and independent probe into the death.
Parag Bhuyan was hit by a green tea leaf carrying vehicle near his residence in Kakopathar on November 11 evening and succumbed to the injuries on November 12.
The vehicle has since been seized and the driver and handyman arrested, who have claimed it was an accident.
