Martyred jawan Hardhan Chandra Roy laid to rest amid tears, tributes

Hundreds gathered at Sapatgram in Dhubri district of Assam on November 16 to pay their last respect to Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy who was martyred in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir on November 13.

The last rites of army jawan Hardhan Chandra Roy was held with full state honours. His body, wrapped in the Tricolour, was brought to his native village in Phutukibari-Medhipara area as a large number of people, including from neighbouring areas, paid their last respect.

The infant son of the martyred jawan lit the pyre from the lap of a family member as personnel of army and locals joined in bidding last adieu to Roy.

Roy, the only earning member of his extended family, is survived by his parents, wife, sisters and a two-year-old son.

 

Sonowal pays last respects to Havildar Hardhan Chandra Roy

The mortal remains of the jawan had reached Guwahati on November 16 evening and was kept at the Army Base Hospital in Guwahati, where Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid his last respects.

Sonowal had also informed that the Assam government would provide financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the martyr in honour of his supreme sacrifice.

Earlier, Army and official sources said on November 14 that Hardhan Chandra Roy from Mhedhipara of Dhubri district made the supreme sacrifice for the country when Pakistan used mortars and other weapons during the unprovoked ceasefire violation in the two-hour long shelling on November 13.
