The Meghalaya government on December 1 announced partial withdrawal of the odd-even notification on plying of vehicles effective from December 10.
An order issued by commissioner of Transport department Mebanshailang R Synrem said that the odd-even arrangement for plying of two-wheelers is withdrawn within the Shillong Urban Agglomeration area, with effect from December 10.
The government had imposed the rule from June 2 after COVID-19 cases surged in East Khasi Hills district, especially in Shillong.
Due to the decision, there were less vehicles plying on the street.
Vehicles so far were allowed to ply, based on odd-even registration numbers.
If odd vehicles were allowed on a given day, the next day, vehicles with even numbers were allowed. The rule applied for all types of vehicles.
So far, Meghalaya has registered 11,875 COVID-19 cases, which includes 112 deaths, of which 93 were reported from East Khasi Hills alone. The state has 669 active cases with 11,094 patients recovering from the viral infection.
