Flybig - New Delhi-Shillong direct flight

From December 21, Meghalaya will be connected with a direct flight from New Delhi.

The Shillong-Delhi flight is being launched on a day when Meghalaya reopen for tourists after remaining closed for nine months due to COVID-19 outbreak.

The Meghalaya government has signed a contract with a private player to operate direct flight between New Delhi-Shillong-New Delhi.

The first direct flight on the route New Delhi-Shillong-New Delhi would take off on December 21 and transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar would be representing the state government in the inaugural flight.

It would initially operate twice a week.

The maiden flight would take off from New Delhi at 10 am and land at the Umroi airport at 1.10 pm. The flight from Umroi would take off at 1.50 pm and land at New Delhi at 4 pm.

Flybig (Big Charter Private Limited), India’s new scheduled commuter airline was awarded the contract for this route through a tender floated by Meghalaya Transport Corporation at the beginning of the year,” a government statement said.

“It would initially operate the flight twice a week. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Flybig would take some time to operate its own aircraft on this route,” the official release said.

However, to commence operations immediately, Flybig is making arrangements to operate a Bombardier Q400 aircraft (which is as per the agreement) available as charter.

“Additional sectors and flights out of Shillong are planned in the subsequent months,” the official release added.
