A former militant and a woman were killed, while another person was injured, in firing by suspected militants near Diphu in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on January 27 night.

Reports received on January 28 said that suspected cadres of a militant outfit fired at a traditional celebration.

A former DMD cadre, Amit Nunisa, sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. Another woman, Alta Maibongsa, was also killed in the firing.

A youth also sustained bullet injuries and is your undergoing treatment.

Sonowal condemns Diphu incident

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on January 28 condemned the incident and instructed the police to investigate the matter expeditiously.
