As many as 36 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Tinsukia district of Assam, tested positive for COVID-19 on March 26 night.

The girl students were boarders of the school hostel, located at Bordubi in Tinsukia.

Reports said that the students may have come in contact with the hostel warden who earlier tested positive for COVID-19.

All the students were sent to isolation. Health department officials said that necessary quarantine measures and contact tracing was on.

Speaking to the media, an official said that the hostel warden had earlier developed some mild symptoms for COVID-19 and was tested positive at Tinsukia Civil Hospital.

“We went through the warden’s travel history and conducted contact tracing at the hostel premises. Out of 87 people, including both the hostel staff and students, 36 tested positive for COVID-19 and were sent to isolation. No need to worry as all the infected patients were from the same building,” the official said.

Assam on March 26 reported 37 fresh cases of COVID-19, in addition to the ones detected in Tinsukia. The official bulletin was yet to report the cases in Tinsukia, till the filing of this report.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM) Assam bulletin, there were 400 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.
