TMC leader Sushmita Dev

The Congress party on March 6 dismissed reports of All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev resigning from the party due to differences of opinion in deciding the list of candidates for Assam assembly elections.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee refuted the news as speculative and “made it clear that Dev has not resigned from the party”.

“It has been brought to the notice of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee that speculative news about resignation of President, All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev is doing the rounds on television and web portals. We want to make it clear that Sushmita Dev has not resigned from party,” said a statement released by Congress leader Bobbeeta Sharma.

Shama is chairperson of the media department at Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

Earlier, several media reports claimed that Sushmita Dev has resigned from the Congress party as she was unhappy with the seat-sharing formula between the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in Barak Valley for the upcoming assembly elections in Assam.

Congress MP from Nagaon Pradyut Bordoloi also rubbished the reports and said: “She is very much with us. She is a very indispensable part of Congress. She is a very respected leader of our party.”
