Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that during the tenure of BJP government in Assam, the state has witnessed peace and harmony, unlike the Congress days.

Taking part in a mass rally in Darrang district’s Sipajhar, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that during the Congress regime, the state was marred by violence.

Sonowal, who accompanied BJP’s Sipajhar candidate Paramananda Rajbongshi in filing his nomination for the state assembly elections, said that no communal violence has taken place in the state during the BJP rule.

“During the Congress days, they divided the state in the name of religion, community and language. Whereas during the last five years, there is no such instance where the government has tried to bring divisions,” Sarbananda Sonowal said addressing a rally on March 11.

He further said that the government has been able to live up to the expectations of the people by advancing towards the path of development taking every community together.

Assam BJP in-charge and party’s vice president Baijayant Jay Panda, BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, chairperson of Assam BJP’s women wing Aparajita Bhuyan, among others, were also present during the occasion.

In Barak Valley also, seven candidates of the BJP alliance have submitted their memorandum amid huge public gatherings. Sonowal, who also participated in the public gatherings, said that the Barak Valley has witnessed development in the last five years like never before.
