Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal mourned the death of renowned flutist, music director, folk exponent and Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Prabhat Sarma.
In a statement on March 2, Sonowal said that one of the rare talents, Prabhat Sarma’s death who combined in him a singer, composer, director and accompanist was a great loss.
Prabhat Sarma through his extra ordinary patronage took the art of playing flute altogether to a great height. He also contributed immensely to promoting and popularising folklore. An extra-ordinary talent, Sarma lent his hands in composing music in few films also.
A recipient of Sangeet Natak Academy and state government’s artiste pension, Prabhat Sarma’s death is an irreparable loss to the society.
Sonowal also said that a multifaceted personality Sarma left behind a rich legacy of his works which will definitely be a source of inspiration for posterity.
Conveying his condolences to the bereaved family members, Sonowal prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Media advisor to the Assam chief minister, Hrishikesh Goswami, visited the residence of Prabhat Sarma and paid rich floral tributes to the departed soul. He also expressed his empathy to the members of the bereaved family and spent time with them.
