Even as the elections are on in Assam, Centre on April 1 has approved road projects worth more than Rs 1250 crore. The Union ministry of road transport and highways accorded approval to upgradation, reconstruction and rehabilitation of several projects, across the country.

As per a PIB press release, the ministry has approved three projects in Assam. It includes a road project worth Rs 286.72 crore in the Bilasipura-Guwahati NH-17. The project will include work of widening/improvement to 4-lane with paved shoulder from Sagunbashi forest to starting of Krishnai Bypass section (Package 7).

Next, the Union ministry has approved work of widening/improvement to 4-lane with paved shoulder of Parokhuwa – Dokmoka section (Package – 2) of NH-29 on EPC mode. This project has a budget of Rs 335.88 crore.

The third project approved by the Centre includes work of widening/improvement to 4-lane with paved shoulder of Tulungia – Jogighopa bridge approach section (Package – 5) of Bilasipura – Guwahati road (NH-17) on EPC mode. This has been approved with a budget Rs 636.42 crore.

The second phase of polling in the Assam assembly elections was held on April 1. The third and final phase of voting will be held on April 6. The results will be declared on May 2.
