Manipur government on April 21 announced the closure of three main women’s markets in Imphal for 10 days due to the increasing cases of the COVID-19.

An order issued by chairman, state executive committee, MH Khan, said that along with the main markets, temporary market sheds in the main market area will also remain closed for 10 days.

The order said that one in every three shops located at Galis of Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar to be opened on rotation basis.

The same rotation policy will also be applicable for wholesale and grocery item shops in Masjid road, Ngari Gali.

The state government said that all public transport vehicles – buses, winger vans, magic vans, auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, etc – will have to carry maximum of 50% passengers and ensure that everyone wear face masks.

The state government said that for markets in other districts, the district administrations should immediately evaluate and issue suitable restriction orders. The state government has imposed a curfew from 7pm to 5am and has restricted entry of all people into the state without negative COVID-19 report.
