COVID-19 vaccination for the 18-44 years age group started in Arunachal Pradesh on May 17 with many getting the first dose of the vaccine.

“From today, COVID-19 vaccination for 18-44 years age group started in 36 vaccination centres across the state,” state health minister Alo Libang told reporters after launching the programme at the old office building of art and culture, TRIHMS in Naharlagun.

Asked about vaccines stock for the inoculation of the 18+ age group, Libang informed that there are 20,180 vials of Covishield vaccine available for the same, which the state had received recently from the Serum Institute of India, Pune.

Informing that the COVID-19 vaccine stock will last next four days, the minister said: “We are yet to receive fresh dosages of vaccine. We are in contact with Serum Institute on the same.”

The minister, however, informed that for the vaccination of 45+ age group, there was availability of vaccine stock.

On Russian vaccine Sputnik V which was launched in the Indian market last week, Libang said the state government is exploring possibility of procuring the said vaccine.

Later, in a social media post, Libang appealed to all eligible people to register on CoWIN portal to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest.
