A man from Diyun in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh was sentenced to life imprisonment in a 22-year-old murder case.

A court in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on May 19 sentenced the man to life imprisonment.

Khonsa District and Sessions Court judge H Kashyap has convicted Rabidhan Chakma of Diyun in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, under section 302 (murder), 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sentenced life imprisonment with fine and other punishments.

On August 1, 1999, the accused had hit one Santosh Kumar Hajong, who was lying on the roadside in a drunken condition, on the head with a big stone and broke his skull and damaged his frontal lobe.

It was revealed during investigation by the Diyun police station that Rabidhan had cold-bloodedly murdered Santosh to take revenge of their previous enmity.

Initially, the case was pending before the court of deputy commissioner, Changlang, then the case was transferred to FTC, Namsai, and thereafter, to the District and Sessions Court, East Session Division at Tezu. After creation of Sessions Court at Khonsa, the case was tried at the Khonsa court.
