IAMAI gets new office bearers

Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on June 24 announced Sanjay Gupta, vice president and managing director at Google India as the new chairman of the industry body for the period 2021-23.

Gupta succeeds Amit Agarwal, senior vice president and country manager, India of Amazon as the chairman of IAMAI.

Accepting the office, Sanjay Gupta said: “Connecting over a billion Indians to the opportunities, the internet, it can empower businesses, scale access to education, healthcare and drive financial inclusions in the country. As a country, India has made tremendous progress and has proven the ability to deliver towards this vision. At this critical moment, the onus is on all of us to ensure that we make responsible progress towards delivering this vision, respecting everyone’s right to privacy, ensuring their safety and making the Internet a powerful engine for India’s economic growth.”

Ajit Mohan, vice president and managing director at Facebook India has been elected as the vice chairman of the association. He replaces industry veteran Dhruv Shringi, co-founder and CEO of Yatra.com. On his appointment, Ajit Mohan said: “IAMAI has long played a positive role in ensuring that India’s exciting digital transformation delivers for everyone in the country. At a time when digital is playing an increasingly important role in peoples’ lives, we are committed to bringing the best of this industry to be an enabling force for good for India”.

Harshil Mathur, CEO and co-founder of the fintech startup, Razorpay has been elected as the treasurer of IAMAI. He succeeds Satyan Gajwani, vice chairman at Times Internet Limited. Mathur said: “Sixteen months ago, there was very little attention paid to financial inclusion of small and medium businesses, the underserved economy. But the last few months of the pandemic changed that. Trust, innovation, and convenience have driven this phenomenal digital adoption.”

“Today, India is amongst the fastest growing FinTech markets in the world with the highest FinTech adoption rate globally. Our product differentiation and innovation have generated enormous global interest, reimagining the payment experience for consumers and businesses. I believe India will be the hub for global fintech innovation even in the aftermath of a global pandemic,” said Harshil Mathur.
