Around 2,000 COVID vaccination centres have been set up and activated in each district in Assam for an extensive drive of vaccination from June 21.

As per the top health department official, they are aiming to vaccinate around 3 lakh individuals per day for the next 10 days.

“On the basis of the performance, the central government will allocate vaccines for the next month,” said Munindra Nath Ngantey, director of health services (family welfare).

From June 21, only one age group – 18 plus – will be eligible for free vaccination.

In the rural areas, the vaccination sessions will be held from 8 am to 1 pm while in Guwahati and other town areas, there will be two shifts – 8 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 8 pm.

The current stock of vaccines in the state is 7.28 lakh.

The official said that the on-site registration facilities will also be available at the centres to avoid delays.

“However, we urge people to book in advance in the portal for smooth proceedings,” he added.

Guardian ministers and secretaries have been asked to camp their assigned districts to ensure that the drive is a success.

Till June 19, 53,19,923 people have been vaccinated in Assam. Altogether 42,64,918 got the first dose while 10,55,005  got both doses.
