In a boost to agri-processing industry in the Northeast region, the Union government has announced a revival package of Rs 77.45 crore to the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC).

“In spite of its good work, a very critical institution for the development of agriculture in the Northeast region, North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation has been suffering from want of support and assistance. So, the farmers of the region have little access to good facilities,” said Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman while announcing the package.

NERAMAC was established in 1982 to support farmers of the region in getting remunerative prices of agri-horticulture produces.

The Centre has proposed the revival package for financial restructuring and infusion of funds to NERAMAC, and has prepared a business plan to give 10 to 15 per cent higher price to farmers by by-passing middlemen and agents.
