After a record high of vaccinating more than 3.74 lakh people against COVID-19 on June 21, the ‘largest vaccination drive’ seems to have fizzed off in Assam as only 12,000 people were jabbed during the day on June 30.
The Assam government vaccinated almost 10 lakh people in three days coinciding with the enhanced vaccination programme that started on June 21.
But, after the initial high, the state could only vaccinate 10,000 people on June 27, which was a Sunday. A day later, the vaccination figure went up to 1.21 lakh only to go down to 29,000 jabs on June 29.
On June 30, till the filing of this report, CoWIN data showed just 12,381 vaccination doses being administered in the state.
Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that the state is targeting inoculating three lakh people every day under the enhanced vaccination programme.
Sarma said that in view of the enhanced vaccination programme under which three lakh people in the state would receive COVID-19 vaccine doses everyday, the district administrations should ramp up the matching infrastructure to make the campaign a success.
Assam has been able to administer over 70 lakh doses of the vaccine with more than 12 lakh receiving both doses of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, Assam on June 30 started Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV)to inoculate children below five years of age under the Universal Immunisation Process (UIP).
