A kidnapping case accused was killed in police firing near Doldoli Reserve Forest in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on July 2 when he allegedly tried to escape from custody.

Two incidents of police firing, where the accused allegedly tried to escape from custody, were reported in Assam on July 2. In the Doldoli Reserve Forest incident, one Kanwaldeep Singh Sidhu, who was the main accused in a recent kidnapping case of one Ajit Das from Guwahati, was injured after he tried to escape custody after he was apprehended by the police on July 2.

“One Kanwaldeep Singh Sidhu, main accused of recent kidnapping of one Ajit Das from Guwahati was apprehended today. However, during travel he snatched a police weapon and fired. In retaliatory fire he has been grievously injured and taken to hospital,” special DGP, Assam Police, GP Singh informed.

Singh later tweeted that the doctors at Dillai CHC have declared the accused dead.

He added that Karbi Anglong Police personnel were also given medical attention after the incident.

Rape and murder accused injured in police firing

In another incident during the day, one Syed Ali who was accused of rape and murder of a minor girl at Bhuragaon in Morigaon district tried to escape custody while he was being taken for reconstruction of scene of crime. He tried to escape under garb of answering nature’s call.

“Morigaon Police had to use lawful minimum force to prevent escape. He has been injured with bullet injury in the knee and taken to hospital for treatment,” GP Singh had tweeted earlier in the day.
