Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the residence of noted activist against witch-hunting, Birubala Rabha, at Thakurbila village on Assam-Meghalaya border in Goalpara district on July 10. Sarma took stock of Rabha’s health condition.

Rabha has been suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.

The CM interacted with the activist and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh from CM’s Relief Fund as an aid for her treatment. He also wished her a speedy recovery so that she resumes her tirade against the menace of superstition with greater zeal and fortitude.

Birubala Rabha has been fighting a relentless battle against superstition and social evils like witch-hunting. Through ‘Mission Birubala’, she has been working to generate awareness against witch-hunting and in the course has saved many lives.

Power minister Bimal Bora also accompanied the CM on the visit.
