Indian Railways successfully carried a trial run on the newly-laid Jiribam-Vangaichungpao railway line in Manipur on July 2. A passenger train reached Vangaichungpao without any glitches and left afterward for Silchar Railway Station.

The Vangaichungpao railway station in Tamenglong district is now connected with the rest of Indian Railway network.

The trial train was flagged off by officials from Silchar railway station who arrived on a Rajdhani Express train in Jiribam on July 2 morning in the presence of Jiribam locals.

The National flag was hoisted at the Jiribam Railway Station and the National Anthem was sung before the trial train was flagged off.

Commenting on the trial run, senior public relations officer Nripen Bhattacharya said that the Vangaichungpao railway station will be linked to Silchar and to the rest of the country after the railway minister formally inaugurates the line.

The line may be inaugurated within this month, he said.

The railway line will be a major boost for the people in the state, he said while adding that trains will soon reach Imphal as soon as construction of remaining tunnels are completed.

July 2’s run was executed to assess the condition of track connecting Jiribam and Vangaichungpao railway stations.

The 110-km long Jiribam-Imphal railway line project is targeted to be completed by March 2022.
