Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City-based Hongbang International University (HIU), has partnered with Aieraa Overseas Studies as its India partner for seeking medical aspirants from India.

This is the first time that a Vietnamese educational institute has tied with an Indian organisation for students in India. The tie-up will benefit students from Northeast India as around 1000 medical aspirants from the regionopt for medical education, Aieraa Overseas Studies said.

With this tie up, Indian medical education aspirants have a more viable and affordable option. The cost of medical education in Vietnam is much lower and affordable for the Indian students. Vietnam is also one of the most economically and politically stable countries in Asia and one among the best surviving countries even during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking at the signing in ceremony, Pham Sanh Chau, Ambassador of Vietnam to India, said: “This is a first joint initiative in Indo-Vietnamese Education. And with direct flights from Kolkata to Ho Chi Minh City and also cultural, food and demographic similarities between Vietnam and India, Indian students will find it like a second home. I will also take this as a personal endeavour and help each student individually for anything that they may require.”

Other than Indian medical institutes, around 20,000 (in 2019) medical aspirants from India have been going to complete their MBBS to Russia, Philippines, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan Philippines and China. Vietnam thus becomes an affordable destination for their medical studies as the cost of living is also comparatively inexpensive.

Deepa R, director at Aieraa Overseas said: “While there are 542 medical colleges in India recognised by the Medical Council of India, this number is quite low if compared to the number of medical aspirants in the country. Also, there is an urgent need for more professional doctors in India to meet the needs of the Indian population.”

Hongbang University’s medical programme is approved and recognised by the health ministry of Vietnam, and the medical college is enlisted in the World Health Organisation (WHO). Thus, the students of HIU are globally recognised for their best practices and calibrate their abilities to global standards. The university also tied up with 7 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City. The medium of education is in English, a statement said.

According to the tie up, Aieraa Overseas will assist Indian and Asian medical education aspirants in applying for admission in undergraduate medical courses and other allied health medical courses in the institution.

Pham Van Linh, principal Hongbang University said: “Vietnam has been ranked by Forbes as a fairly inexpensive travel and study destination compared to other popular destinations in Asia. Here, we introduce Hongbang International University, as a new study destination in Asia for medical aspirants from India. Our institution has helped hundreds of students to acquire medical education with world-class infrastructure at an affordable fee.”

Located in Ho Chinh Minh City in Vietnam, Hongbang University is a private university, accredited by three US educational organizations for meeting American education standards. It has multiple collaborations with world universities including Universities of Bedfordshire, Arizona, Texas, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, Deakin University, Marlborough Institute of Technology, Hiroshima University, Dankook University and so on.
